Board appointments

The Minister of Health has statutory responsibility to appoint members to a range of statutory authorities, including Crown entities, professional regulatory bodies and ministerial health committees.

Recent appointments

Recent appointments to statutory authorities can be found on the New Zealand Gazette website, or the Parliament website.

Information for applicants

Manatū Hauora advertises vacant roles to a range of statutory authorities on the Manatū Hauora Careers website. We do not accept applications or expressions of interest outside of advertisement periods.

Manatū Hauora helps responsible ministers identify candidates with the required skills and experience for a board role.

In making yourself available to be considered for appointment, please ensure that:

  • there is nothing that would preclude your appointment
  • you have considered and fully declared any conflicts of interest you may have
  • you are available to serve for a full term of up to three or five years depending on the role.

Before applying, please also check the information for each vacancy to learn about the specific requirements for the position you are interested in.

By submitting your application, you are declaring that all information supplied in your application is correct. Incorrect, incomplete or misleading information will render the application invalid and may result in the revocation of any appointment made.

There are often a large number of candidates for each vacancy. The decision about which candidate will be appointed for any vacancy will be made by the Minister of Health or Governor-General (depending on the role). Please be aware that the appointment process is likely to continue for several months after the closing date for applications, and often includes consideration by Cabinet.

Diversity of board members

The government expects statutory boards to represent the diversity and demographic make-up of New Zealand, including gender, ethnicity, age and geographic location.

How can you register interest outside of the recruitment drives?

We do not accept applications or expressions of interest outside of advertisement periods.

Some government agencies do accept registrations of interest from people from diverse backgrounds in order to ensure a diverse pool of candidates across various government appointments.

If you have the relevant skills and experience and are interested in serving on a board, we recommend you register with the following nominating agencies as appropriate:

As ministers seek nominations from a range of sources, a nomination may not necessarily result in the appointment of any particular person.

If you have any questions or require any further information, please contact the Appointments team.
