This release includes Cabinet material and supporting papers associated with the New Medical School programme of work, Programme Business Case (PBC) and Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA).

As part of the Coalition Government’s commitment, the Ministry of Health has been working with the University of Waikato and key agencies on the steps needed to consider the establishment of a new medical school.

Cabinet considered the PBC and CBA in September. These provided assurance that a new medical school at the University of Waikato would achieve the Government’s objectives and provide significant benefits.  Cabinet confirmed that the work would now move to the preparation of a Detailed Business Case which will provide more detail on the proposal and costings.

To note: The summary figures reflect a point in time assessment and may change as the Detailed Business Case (DBC) develops. They are to be treated as preliminary as further analysis may lead to adjustments. This data is an initial guide, not a final decision-making source.
