QR codes make it easier for people to keep track of where they’ve been. Find out who can get official NZ COVID Tracer QR code posters, how to get them and how to manage, reprint or archive your posters.

All business and workplaces can choose to display the official NZ COVID Tracer QR code posters. This includes businesses operating from vehicles, public transport and small passenger services and event organiser and venue owners.

QR codes should be displayed in prominent places at or near the main entrance, and in other places around the business. You can have as many copies as you like but make sure at least one poster is easy to reach from a wheelchair. You need a separate poster for each location.
Public transport and small passenger services
Public transport services should have additional QR codes in prominent places, for example windows. Small passenger services (less than five seats) only need to display one QR code.
Workplaces without fixed premises
You can display a QR code at any place where work is being carried out. This includes any place where a worker goes, or is likely to be, while at work.
Private gatherings and events
If you’re organising an event or gathering you can choose to have a QR code poster.

There are two ways to get your QR code posters – online or using our bulk upload template. You can choose whichever is easiest for you.
Before you start you will need your:
- NZ Business Number (NZBN) or Business Industry Classification Code
- address details for each location
- email address.
You should only use an official Ministry of Health NZ COVID-19 QR poster. Make sure your poster has the right contact information.
Complete the form online
You will need to fill in a separate form for each of your locations. As well as your business details you will need:
- a valid New Zealand driver licence
- address details for each of your locations
- your email address
- an email address and contact phone number for each of your locations.

If you do not have a New Zealand driver license or have a large number of locations use this template.

Creating an official NZ COVID Tracer Poster
All businesses and services are required to display an official NZ COVID Tracer QR code poster.
If you are not a business, you can still create one for your house or an event you are hosting, such as a party.
QR code posters help New Zealanders keep track of where they have been with the NZ COVID Tracer app, which makes contact tracing faster if there is a further outbreak of COVID-19.
You can create your poster in 4 simple steps: Choose your poster type, verify your details, enter the poster details, and display your poster.
To get started, go to health.govt.nz and select NZ COVID Tracer app
On the left-hand pane, choose QR codes and use the self-service web form to get started.
If you need posters for more than 20 locations, click “Follow these instructions” to use our bulk-upload process.
Otherwise, click Create your poster now to get started.
Step 1: Choose your poster type.
Our first step is choosing what we will be using our poster for.
Read through the three questions and select the answers that suit you.
Are you creating a poster for a business that has an NZBN or for personal use?
Are you creating a poster for a vehicle?
Is this for a temporary event?
Press continue when you’re ready to proceed
Step 2: Your contact details
Enter your name and email address here. Remember, the email address you enter here is where the poster will be sent.
If you’re a business, you will need your driver licence to verify your identity.
Read the privacy statement and terms and conditions, then tick the box to confirm you agree to the terms and conditions.
When you are ready, press continue.
You are nearly there. We need to verify your email address before we send the poster.
Check your email - you should have received an email with a 6-digit verification code.
Type the 6-digit code into the verification screen, and press continue.
Step 3: Enter your location details.
Enter the details that will appear on the poster and the location contact details. The location contact details will not appear on the poster. Click Generate Poster when you are ready.
Step 4: Display your poster
Check your emails. You should have received a link to download the poster.
Download the poster and print out as many copies as you need.
Display your poster in a place where it’s easy to reach and in a prominent position.

You can reprint your QR code posters and update and manage the contact details registered to your poster online. Make sure your contact details are kept up to date. This will help contact tracers notify you quickly if:
- someone who tests positive for COVID-19 has been to your premises
- your business is identified as a location of interest.
Make sure you archive posters so contact tracers will know it is no longer in use (for example, if it was used for a one-off event).
