The Health Workforce and System Efficiencies Committee was established to advise the Minister of Health, Hon Dr Shane Reti, on the management of health workforce challenges to deliver safe, effective, and accessible health services to New Zealanders, now and in the future. The Committee will also explore opportunities to improve efficiencies across the health system.
The Committee will work with the Ministry on the longer-term, system-level direction needed for the health workforce.
Following appointment by the Minister of Health, the Health Workforce and System Efficiencies Committee members had their first meeting in April 2024.
The Committee will meet at least quarterly and will prepare an annual report to the Minister of Health.
The Committee replaces the Health Workforce Advisory Board, which was paused during the health system reform transition. That Board had been in abeyance since the establishment of the Pae Ora (Healthy Futures) Act 2022.
