Recommendations on Alcohol Advertising and Sponsorship

Summary

The Ministerial Forum on Alcohol Advertising and Sponsorship was established in February 2014 to consider whether further restrictions on alcohol advertising and sponsorship are needed to reduce alcohol-related harm. The Forum completed its review and provided its report to the Associate Minister of Health and Minister of Justice in October 2014.

The Forum’s principle concern was identifying opportunities to influence and prevent alcohol-related harm, especially for young and vulnerable people.

Recommendations

The report makes 14 recommendations to further restrict alcohol advertising and sponsorship. These recommendations are grouped to support three objectives:

  1. reducing youth exposure through sponsorship
  2. reducing youth exposure through advertising
  3. strengthening the current system of co-regulation.

Membership

The Forum’s members were community leaders who represented health, sports, academic and advertising views.
