As required under the Gambling Act 2003, the Ministry has developed a research strategy for monitoring, research and evaluation of problem gambling.
The Gambling Act 2003 states that, ‘An integrated problem gambling strategy must include independent scientific research associated with gambling, including (for example) longitudinal research on the social and economic impacts of gambling, particularly the impacts of different cultural groups; and evaluation…’ [Subpart 4, 317 (c and d)]
To address this requirement, the Ministry of Health developed a research strategy for the period 2005–2010 (PDF, 378 KB). The research strategy outlines the Ministry’s intentions for monitoring, research and evaluation over this period, including details of:
- proposed research projects for the 2005/06 and 2006/07 financial periods
- proposed research budget for 2007-2010; and
- proposed timeframes for the research programme.
