B4 School Check information for ECE services and teachers

Two pamphlets have been developed for the education sector, one about the B4 School Check and one about vision and hearing screening (undertaken as part of the B4 School Check).

B4 School Check – Information for the Education Sector (PDF, 997 KB) outlines the role that early childhood education services play in the delivery of the Check, with a particular focus on the strengths and difficulties questionnaire (SDQ) that is used by parents and teachers to assess a child’s social and emotional development.

To order hard copies of the pamphlet, contact the B4 School Check key contact for your area.

Vision and Hearing Screening – Information for Educators (PDF, 95 KB) provides information on vision and hearing screening and how educators can help identify children who may have other vision or hearing problems.

No hard copies of this resource are available.

Communications to the early childhood education sector

In February 2009, the Ministries of Health and Education sent a joint letter (PDF, 100 KB) to all early childhood education services enclosing copies of the pamphlet and a list of frequently asked question for the education sector (PDF, 108 KB) about the B4 School Check.

An earlier joint letter (PDF, 105 KB) from the Ministries of Health and Education was sent to all early childhood education services in June 2008 informing them about the B4 School Check and the role that they can expect to play in the delivery of the Check.

The Ministries of Health and Education appreciate the support of early childhood education services and primary schools in the delivery of the B4 School Check across the country.
