A comprehensive external evaluation was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of diabetes nurse prescribing during a six month demonstration project. The evaluation report found that diabetes nurse specialist prescribing is safe, of high quality and appropriate. Diabetes nurse specialist prescribing brings important benefits to the effectiveness of specialist diabetes services, is acceptable to patients, and is supported by the wider health care team.

Published 02 August 2010This study uses the results of a literature review and data from nine New Zealand primary care practices, including general practitioner (GP) and nurse diaries recording details of more than 2000 consultations, to develop a model estimating the financial impact of task substitution between nurses and GPs. Data were collected between July and November 2009.
