Voluntary Bonding Scheme terms and conditions

This page sets out the Terms and Conditions for the intake years listed below. Forms to apply for payments after three, four and five years on the scheme can also be downloaded from this page. Please ensure that you use the payment application form that relates to your intake year and bookmark this page for future reference.

2017 Registrations of Interest

The Registration of Interest (ROI) period for the 2017 Voluntary Bonding Scheme for 2016 new graduate nurses, midwives, dentists and sonographers, and postgraduate doctors in General Practice has now closed. Queries can be forwarded to vbs@moh.govt.nz.

The 2017 Intake Registration of Interest period was open Monday 20th February 2017 at 8am to Monday 3rd April 2017 at midnight.

To be eligible, registrations must have been successfully submitted within the ROI period, and no registrations received after the ROI period has closed can be considered.

Payment information

If you believe you are eligible to apply for payment, please download, print and complete an application form.

Applications for payment for the 2014 intake can be submitted once you become eligible under the Terms:

Read the form thoroughly and include all of the required information. This will reduce any delays in processing your application. If your application is incomplete, you will be contacted via email detailing the missing items and requesting their inclusion.

To remain eligible for further payments you must continue to abide by the Terms and Conditions for the 2014 intake.

2013 intake (2012 graduates) terms and conditions

Payment information

If you believe you are eligible to apply for payment, please download, print and complete an application form.

Applications for payment for the 2013 intake can be submitted from 1 January 2016:

Read the form thoroughly and include all of the required information. This will reduce any delays in processing your application. If your application is incomplete, it will be returned with a letter detailing the missing items and requesting their inclusion.

To remain eligible for further payments you must continue to abide by the Terms and Conditions for the 2013 intake.

2012 intake (2011 graduates) terms and conditions

Payment information

If you believe you are eligible to apply for payment, please download, print and complete an application form:

Read the form thoroughly and include all of the required information. This will reduce any delays in processing your application. If your application is incomplete, it will be returned with a letter detailing the missing items and requesting their inclusion.

To remain eligible for further payments you must continue to abide by the Terms and Conditions for the 2012 (docx, 92 KB) intake.

Your tax obligations depend on your employment status. More information can be found in the application for payment form.

Voluntary bonding payments are subject to income tax, and may affect your provisional tax, Working for Families and child support payments. The Ministry of Health suggests that you seek independent advice on how the payment will affect your tax position. Check the Inland Revenue Department website or call 0800 227 774.

2011 intake (2010 graduates) terms and conditions

If you believe you are eligible to apply for payment, please download, print and complete an application form:

Read the form thoroughly and include all of the required information. This will reduce any delays in processing your application. If your application is incomplete, it will be returned with a letter detailing the missing items and requesting their inclusion.
