A programme to ensure a sustainable medical workforce, including steps to help trainee doctors make informed decisions when choosing specialties
This work is overseen by the Medical Workforce Taskforce, a joint project between Health Workforce New Zealand (HWNZ) and other stakeholders. Priorities include:
- maximising First Year House Officer placements at DHBs for New Zealand Government-funded medical graduates
- ensuring these graduates can train and register as specialists in this country, particularly citizens and permanent residents
- developing and supporting the GP workforce in particular.
To this end, HWNZ has prepared medical specialty training factsheets aimed at undergraduate medical students and resident medical officers (RMOs) which can be found on Kiwi Health Jobs website.
