HWNZ has made a commitment to develop an updated national health workforce strategic plan which we expect to publish in 2018. The plan will be developed in collaboration with all parts of the sector and input from consumers.
The workforce strategic plan will be a ‘living’ document that will inform future decision making and investment and include agreed priorities that are reviewed and updated annually.
While we work together on this long term strategic framework, we are continuing to focus on workforce development in known problem areas including mental health, primary care and midwifery and to better meet the health needs of rural and Maori communities.
Initial discussions have been held with the HWNZ Board and taskforces, and feedback has been gathered from a consumer reference group. A national workshop for key stakeholders will be a focal point in development of the strategy.
