Training opportunities for Health Impact Assessment

The HIA Support Unit is not a direct provider of HIA training, but it has an important role in supporting the delivery of training as well as presenting about HIA and the role of the HIA Support Unit.

  • Introductory and advanced HIA Summer School courses
  • Half day and two day Whanau Ora HIA training (see Whanau Ora HIA page)
  • Training through the HIA Learning by Doing Fund
  • HIA Practitioner workshops.

The HIA Support Unit has presented or regularly presents at the following training:

Types of HIA training in New Zealand

The University of Otago provides two HIA training opportunities in its Wellington Summer School programme.

  • The first is a two day introduction to health impact assessment . This course introduces HIA which aids decision-making by predicting the potential effects of policies, programmes and projects on health, wellbeing and health inequalities.

  • The second is a two day course on Advanced HIA. The focus of this interactive workshop depends on the needs of the HIA community and current issues.  The 2012 workshop focussed on HIA and planning, especially in the context of the Local Government Act and the Resource Management Act.

More information about the programme is available on the University of Otago website
