The evaluation report provides the findings of a process and impact evaluation of the Whānau Ora HIA conducted on the draft Wairarapa Alcohol Strategy (draft Strategy).
The evaluation suggested that there was significant benefit to the draft Strategy, the Councils who are signatory to it and the local organisations who work to deal with alcohol related harm in the community from the WOHIA process.
As a result of the WOHIA recommendations and other submissions, the draft Strategy is to be revised.
The Wairarapa DHB’s Public Health team have increased their knowledge, skills and confidence in managing and implementing HIA. The mentoring provided by the WOHIA consultant was acknowledged as having been helpful in this process.
The positive response of the organisations involved in the WOHIA could be used to further promote WOHIA and HIA in policy and strategy development in the Wairarapa.
