Autism spectrum disorder programme
The Disability Services autism work programme aims to improve services for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
The need to review and improve ASD services was identified in a number of reports including a government commissioned report- known as the Curry report in 1998.
The Ministry of Health is a member of the ASD cross-government officials group which provides strategic direction across government agencies and oversee ASD-related developments aimed at improving services for people with ASD and their families and whanau.
The ASD work programme falls into three sections. The first section includes the New Zealand ASD Guideline. The second section includes cross-government projects, initiatives and service developments that will directly benefit people with ASD and their families. The third section includes projects, initiatives and service development that benefits a wider range of people with disabilities but will also impact on people with ASD.
