New Zealanders can save money on medicines by making sure they get their prescription subsidy card as soon as they are eligible for it.

Anyone can get the subsidy card once they have paid for 20 prescription medicine items from 1 February. Once individual adults or families have the card, they do not have to pay the $5 prescription co-payment until the following year.

Prescriptions for children under six are free, and from July 2015 this will extend to all children under the age of 13.

For more information about the prescription subsidy card and how to get one, go to http://www.health.govt.nz/prescriptionsubsidycard.
